Building Your Organization in a Social Media World

If you are having trouble finding customers, try going where they are looking for you…the Internet. There is an exciting, powerful and productive world on the Internet known as social media. It is where businesses go to do business…and your business needs to live there if it is going to thrive. Linked In, Facebook, and MySpace may be familiar terms, but foreign concepts. This SMPS program will help you get an understanding of:

  1. The social media tools used by businesses to connect to and communicate with clients, prospects, and target markets.
  2. The most effective tools to use when starting out.
  3. How it all comes together for an effective sales strategy.

Once you have chosen your social media strategy how do you monetize it?  At this session you will learn how to develop and implement a strategy that measures and monitors your results. You will also learn how to use that information to drive your message to the right audience and help you effectively monetize your activity

Catherine Juon, Pure Visibility
Catherine discovered the power of the Internet back in the days of IRC and UseNet while teaching abroad in the early 1990's. In fact, she has one of those "Internet changed her life" stories. A Russian Listserv drew her to Moscow to meet a group of students from Eastern Michigan University, one of whom she later married and followed to Michigan (after keeping up a long-distance romance via CompuServe and a Vax terminal).

Since then, technology and the Internet have continued to be a powerful influence in her life, including a stint at the Engineering Information Systems department at Ford where she learned HTML in order to build out the department's first website. She soon parlayed this experience into her own company, Stretch Media. This is where Catherine's long love-affair with search marketing began and where she helped clients such as Service Brands International gain visibility online. She was tapped to speak about search marketing for the Ann Arbor Ad Club in 1998 just as Google was coming on to the scene. The biggest industry revolution during those early years was pay-per-click advertising, which continues to be a huge driver of business for the clients of Pure Visibility.

Catherine has served on numerous professional boards including the Ann Arbor Ad Club and Society for Technical Communication, and has served as a guest judge for the Addy Awards in Cleveland, OH. Outside of business, Catherine enjoys economic development and is also an honorary board member of Great Commission Air (www.greatcommissionair.org), an Ann Arbor based organization providing humanitarian relief through emergency air transport within Guatemala.
