Through
the educational programs, our technical staff
are exposed to information that is not available
to them through their professional organizations.
Discovering new trends is an important aspect
of our educational programs. As marketers, we're
always trying to find an edge and getting other
perspectives is a good way to acquire new information.
It helps to get out of a rut!

When
joining an organization it is important not
only to become a member but to also become involved
at every level. After only a few years of being
a member of SMPS Michigan, I have served on
the membership committee and the Board of Directors.
It is within the committees and on the Board
that you can find and create lasting relationships
as well as a solid network not only for yourself
but your company. SMPS is most definitely a
unique and invaluable organization within our
industry.

SMPS has provided me with valuable professional development and networking opportunities that have connected me to other marketing professionals in my industry. On more than one occasion, these professional contacts have helped me to solve particularly challenging problems. Through SMPS, I have found resources to draw upon outside my own company.

Serving on a committee gives you the opportunity to know people as peers and friends, not as competitors. I've made a number of friends who serve as a sounding board, supply information on vendors, even provide business development contacts. And, it's reassuring to know you're not the only one fighting the battle.
